    Description

PERU BANKNOTE AND COINS FOR DISPLAY FRAMING
Contains a 1976 banknote honoring Inca Garcilaso de la Vega (b 1539-d 1616), born Gomez Suarez de Figueroa and known as El Inca; he was a chronicler and writer born in the Viceroyalty of Peru, and is considered the earliest known mestizo person in the history of America.  The reverse shows boats on Lake Titicaca.  A favorite of collectors.
Also contains a set of seven coins honoring Miguel Grau (b 1834-d 1879), the most renowned Peruvian naval officer and hero of the Naval Battle of Angamos during the War of the Pacific (1879-1884).  He was known as
el Cabaliero de los Mares (Gentleman of the Seas)
for his kind and chivalrous treatment of defeated enemies and is esteemed by both Peruvians and Chileans, an iconic figure for the Peruvian Navy, and one of the most famous merchant marine and naval military leaders of the Americas.
